My name is Melissa Rutter
I live in Kelowna with my husband and family. I love to boat on the lake and go swimming in the summer. In the mountains I love to rock-climb, hike and snowboard in the winter.
I want to travel to another country because I want to see more of the world. I hope one day I can travel abroad and teach English!

What are my strengths as a human being?

I believe my strengths as a human being come from different aspects of my life. My parents and my early beginnings in competitive sport helped to build those strengths.

First, my parents have raised me to be a confident and independent person. They have given me plenty of opportunities in life to grow and succeed. They were the ones who provided me with the path to do gymnastics, which is my next contributor of strength as a human.

As a competitive gymnast I developed not only physical strength but a mental toughness as well. Being disciplined and striving for excellence was instilled at an early age. Gymnastics also gave me artistry, gracefulness, and most importantly coordination. Being coordinated has given me the ability to pursue all kinds of sports and adventure activities throughout my life.

My strengths as a human allow me to be a better teacher as well. I come into the classroom being over prepared, this assures my confidence to take the lead. I am known to make lessons “flow” and transition very smoothly from one part to the next. This smooth approach is exactly how I like my teaching to appear, though massive amounts of preparation took place the night before. My mentor teacher is quoted in my final practicum evaluation as saying “I really enjoy Melissa’s calm and centered approach to teaching”.

These are just a few characteristics that I believe make me a strong human right now. There is always room to grow as we learn and move forward on life’s journey!
